We previously had an infrastructure running Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 13.2 version on Solaris OS. Upon upgrading our database version from 12 to 19c, we encountered numerous errors due to the failure to update our application version an oversight that proved to be a significant mistake. Despite our efforts, we couldn’t manage to upgrade the Oracle Cloud Control application. Consequently, we decided to proceed with a clean install. In this article, I will detail the step-by-step process of applying the Update 17 patch on Oracle Cloud Control 13.5 software.

Introduction:

Our system, based on Solaris OS and operating with Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.2 version, underwent a database upgrade from version 12 to 19c. Regrettably, this transition brought about a plethora of errors due to our failure to update the application version concurrently—an oversight that had profound consequences. Despite our attempts, the upgrade of the Oracle Cloud Control application was unsuccessful. Consequently, we made the decision to advance through a clean install. The objective of this article is to provide a comprehensive guide outlining the sequential process for applying the Update 17 patch on Oracle Cloud Control 13.5 software.

It’s crucial to understand the significance of maintaining coherence among system components during an upgrade process. In our case, the oversight of not synchronizing the application version with the database upgrade led to numerous complications. Begin by examining the requirements for updating Oracle Cloud Control. This includes assessing hardware and software prerequisites based on the current system configuration and the Oracle version in use. Additionally, review pertinent documentation and ensure necessary backups are in place.

Prioritizing backups pre and post-upgrade is essential to mitigate potential data loss and ensure a smooth transition. While this guide encompasses fundamental steps in the upgrade process, customization based on individual system configurations is paramount. Requirements:

  • Latest OMSPatcher
  • Latest EM 13.5 Update RU Patch File
  • Latest Oracle Database Version 19.18 or high
  • Base Em Version 13.5
  • DB Restore Point and Middleware Home Backup

create restore point bigdba guarantee flashback database;
